With Body Positive Yoga creator Amber Karnes
With thousands of images of “perfection” shot at us every day, it can be easy to compare ourselves with others and internalize the constant judgment and scrutiny of our bodies. Even during our yoga practice, it’s often easy to compare ourselves to the “ideal” body or look. Whether you’re at home, at the gym, at the yoga studio, or just moving around in the world, feeling self-conscious or even hateful toward your (normal! human! imperfect!) body is sometimes unavoidable. Drawing on mind-body, self-awareness, and practical self-care techniques, we’ll discover ways to boost confidence, get in touch with our inner badass, and foster a healthy self image.
Amber Karnes – creator of Body Positive Yoga – is a ruckus maker, RYT-200 yoga asana teacher, and a lifelong student of her body. In Amber’s classes and workshops, students of all shapes and sizes will find tips, tricks, and modifications to make yoga asana work for their body type. She emphasizes safe alignment and mindful transitions, and guides each student to honor the body they bring to the mat today, while being empowered to learn about the body’s intelligence and power. She serves on the Yoga and Body Image Coalition and seeks to further the message of inclusivity, consent, agency, body positivity, and accessibility for all on and off the mat. She blogs at bodypositiveyoga.com.
