Kirtan 101: Intro Session

Kirtan 101 is a workshop focused on introducing the art of kirtan. This workshop aims to provide a practical approach to the mechanics of kirtan, its origins, differences and similarities with western music, and the benefits of kirtan meditation as a practical tool to improve our lifestyles and take us to a higher state of consciousness.

In addition to these concepts, Kirtan 101 provides a presentation of the different instruments used in the Gudiya Vaishnava tradition and a first experience on how to play them. These instruments are the harmonium and the mrdanga drum. Students will learn to use the benefits of kirtan meditation as a practical tool to improve our lifestyles and take us to a higher state of consciousness.

This one-day workshop is an introduction to a 3-day series, in which the concepts and musical instruction are developed more deeply.

The series meets on Saturdays from 4:30-6pm.

September 9, September 16, September 23. Cost is $75 for early bird registration by August 26th. Price increases to $90 after this date. Registration closes September 8th.

Diego E. Tapia (Etasa-Krsna Das) studied piano since early childhood at the Conservatory of Music Felix T. Garzon, Argentina. He has a wide variety of experience in performing classical, pop/rock and folk genres. As coordinator of Vamsi School of Music, Diego decided to combine his passion for music and teaching. He has taught piano, guitar, harmonium and mridanga in both private and group settings since 2010.
