Deepen your experience and knowledge of physical and subtle elements with this integral yoga practice. Bandhas are described as “gates” or “locks”-- key points along the energetic body that channel or direct the flow of prana. We will focus on the three most prominent in modern yoga practice: Mula Bandha, or the root lock; Uddiyana Bandha, or the ‘flying up’ lock; and Jalandhara Bandha, or throat lock. Effective use of these techniques help to support the spine, tone the pelvic floor, and develop core integrity. In this 2.5 hr practice, we will use a system of discussion, asana, pranayama, and kriyas ranging from dynamic vinyasa to seated meditation. You will learn how and why to use each of the three bandhas, plus when and where to incorporate bandhas into a movement practice. As we go, we will explore how to regulate the intensity of a practice to meet your needs, increase sensitivity to the subtle body, and experience the movement of energy through deeper layers of awareness. Please consider a mild fast prior to this practice, and arrive well hydrated with an empty stomach for an optimal experience.

After knee surgery followed by a car accident, yoga transformed Dietrich’s physical therapy into an integrated, restorative practice. Then mindfulness, breath and meditation brought clarity to the struggle with attention. The experience of body and breath was such an incredible gift that Dietrich was inspired to share this opportunity for transformation and growth with everyone. Many years with Rich Logan, Chicago’s Iyengar and Mindful Vinyasa master, refined attitudes towards alignment and anatomy to enable Dietrich to create safe space for each individual to explore their own body mind connection.
