YOGA4RUNNERS

Saturday, March 26th

2pm 20 4PM

Yoga 4 Runners is about understanding how your body works, how certain muscles work against others, how to selectively engage and release muscles with a fine resolution of control. Furthermore, it's arguable that inflexible people have an advantage in Yoga. Let's say a runner has shortened hamstrings and glutes. The muscles that oppose that tightness, the quads, sartorius, and gluteus minimus, will have to work that much harder to perform the femoral flexion that many of the yogic postures require. These muscles will, as a result, rapidly become stronger and much more responsive to the nervous system. Due directly to his inflexibilities, the inflexible Yoga practitioner quickly improves strength and muscular awareness.

Bio: Andrea is a Seatte-based instructor who discovered yoga in college and immediately fell in love with the way the practice balanced her body and mind. She is also very passionate about nutrition and overall wellness and likes to bring a wholesome approach to her personal practice and to her students. Andrea’s goal as an instructor is to expose students to the world of yoga in an accessible way. She encourages students to get to know themselves and their bodies and to always look for that balance between ease and effort. To learn more about Andrea, visit her website at yogabyandrea.com.

Earth Hour Candlelight Light Yoga

Saturday March 26th

8:30 to 9:30pm

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour to take a stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, CN Tower in Toronto, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.

On Saturday 27 March, Earth Hour 2010 became the biggest Earth Hour ever. A record 128 countries and territories joined the global display of climate action. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas switched off. People across the world from all walks of life turned off their lights and came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.Earth Hour 2011 will take place on Saturday 26 March at 8.30PM (local time). This Earth Hour we want you to go beyond the hour, so after the lights go back on think about what else you can do to make a difference. Together our actions add up.

Carrie Dye, RYT

Carrie’s yoga practice began in earnest at the turn of the millennium; what started as a way to unwind quickly became a passion. Since 2003, she has shared her love of yoga with students of all ages, sizes, and fitness abilities.  From the littlest yogis (infants) to students with unique challenges (prenatal, elderly), Carrie’s classes are customized to fit the practitioners’ needs.  A Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher, Carrie completed her 200 hour teacher certification in 2003, studying with Kripalu Yoga Teacher Training Directors Yoganand Michael Carroll and Tarika Diana Damielo, at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health.  Earning additional certifications in Prenatal, Children’s, and Restorative Yoga allowed her to broaden her classes to diverse groups of students.  Fascinated with movement and the body, Carrie studied dance, martial arts, Feldenkrais Method and Positional Therapy all of which influence her teaching style.  Carrie leads classes that unify mind, body, and spirit utilizing postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation techniques.  She strives to create anenvironment where students can build strength and flexibility while honoring their innate wisdom and fostering inner peace.
