Kathleen Ellis
Kathleen began investigating the mind-body-spirit connection in 1999. While dancing with friends one night, she had a sudden realization that she was living her whole life in her head -- to the detriment of her heart and body. She began her quest for re-integration with T'ai Chi lessons at a nearby church. The practice helped her realize the alchemy of breath and movement for the first time. Around the same time she began learning to spin fire poi and later started teaching the art to others in her community.
In 2002 she decided to seek out a more varied and dynamic practice and lucked into her first class with teacher Sosha Devi at Yama Studio in Baltimore, MD. Studying with Sosha and other teachers for the next three years brought Kathleen to develop a deeper relationship with her dharma, with universal compassion, and with her innermost witness. She found the practice also helped her with everyday life - easing chronic anxiety and carpal tunnel syndrome. Shortly after moving to Chicago in early 2006 Kathleen enrolled in the Moksha Yoga teacher training program, studying under master teacher Daren Friesen. She has done additional teacher training with Shiva Rea, Tias Little, Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty.
Kathleen's teaching offers philosophy, precise verbal cues, cohesive themes, beautiful music, and a bit of humor combined with an immersive, flowing yoga practice. She is profoundly grateful both to her teachers and students for the opportunity to move closer to the light in their fellowship. |
